The Main-belt asteroid 18413 was named Adamspencer after him in 2012 (the main belt is an asteroid belt [containing a large number of asteroids or “minor planets”] which is located somewhere between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars). In that same year, his name was included in the top 50 most influential in higher education list by Weekend Australian.
In 2018, Edith Cowan University awarded Spencer an honorary Doctor of Science honoris causa award. He is also Sydney University’s first-ever ambassador for mathematics and science and an ambassador for the Fred Hollows Foundation.
