Singer received Philosophy Now’s 2016 Award for Contributions in the Fight Against Stupidity

Inducted into the U.S Animal Rights Hall of Fame in year 2000

Appointed Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for “eminent service to philosophy and bioethics

Peter Singer has a B.A. in philosophy and history (1967) and an M.A. in philosophy (1969) from the University of Melbourne and a B.Phil degree (1971) from the University of Oxford. In 2000, the United States Animal Rights Hall of Fame inducted him as a member. In 2012, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for his work in promoting a better world through his ideas and work. 

In 2016, he received the Award for Contributions in the Fight Against Stupidity by Philosophy Now for his work with the Effective Altruism movement. In 2021, he won the Berggruen Prize for Philosophy and Culture. The award is given to “thinkers whose ideas have profoundly shaped human self-understanding and advancement in a rapidly changing world”.
